T. Anthony Don Michael, M.D.
Dr. T. Anthony Don Michael is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and bariatrics (medically supervised weight loss). He is the only person in the United States with all three qualifications. A cardiologist is a physician who is certified to treat problems of the cardiovascular system - the heart and arteries of the body. His medical friends refer to Dr. Don Michael, an internationally known cardiologist, as a renaissance man. Cutting edge technology and an emphasis on prevention of heart disease and stroke have dominated his interest in the practice of medicine. These interests led to the development of the Advanced Heart and Medical Center, which is his brainchild arid reflects these concepts. He is a great believer in non-invasive testing, especially non-invasive angiography. He is convinced that more, not less, time should be spent by doctors with patients; and that less, not more, drugs are important. Dr. Don Michael has several firsts: obtaining boards in internal medicine, cardiology and bariatrics (medically supervised weight loss). He invented and used ultrasound to open blocked arteries, and a facemask for doctors to prevent AIDS, the only one of its kind. His textbook and CD in cardiology, McGraw-Hill, 1998 and 2000, emphasizes the bedside approach. Dr. Don Michael has published numerous articles, abstracts and chapters in several textbooks, and is a prolific inventor with 29 high tech cardiology patents to his credit. Several of these inventions are being used in international research and have earned him a fellowship in the European Society of Cardiology. He has concentrated on preventing the disastrous effects of excess weight, emphasizing exercise, fitness, diet and an organized approach to weight reduction, designed to prevent damage to the body and to the mind. He continues a busy practice in cardiology and vascular disease. Dr. Don Michael regards his inventions of the double balloon catheter, the ultrasound device to open blocked arteries, the microembolism filter and his CPR adjuncts, particularly the AIDS-proof mask, and the new language of Cardiophonetics, as his most significant contributions to science and industry as they are not merely incremental research, but completely new approaches to treatment. Dr. Don Michael is a full clinical professor of medicine at UCLA, the president and director of the Advanced Heart and Medical Center, and has been honored by inclusion in five Who's Who directories. He has served on national and international committees of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. He has a variety of non-medical interests, which he shares with his wife: ballroom dancing, opera singing, sports, and philanthropy. Education
